Jim Simpson is vice president of Business Development and Strategy for Boeing Network and Space Systems, a business unit of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS). In this role, he is responsible for customer engagement, new business, advocacy and marketing efforts, research and development investments, mergers and acquisitions, business unit strategy and leadership development. Simpson was named to the position in 2014. Previously, in 2013, Simpson was president of Boeing Satellite Systems International, Inc., president of Boeing Commercial Satellite Service, Inc., and vice president of Commercial Satellite Systems for Space and Intelligence Systems (S&IS) within Boeing Defense, Space & Security. Simpson joined Boeing in 1980. Most recently he was vice president of Business Development for Boeing’s S&IS business unit and the customer-facing Business Development vice president for the Intelligence community for Boeing Defense, Space & Security, a role he assumed in 2007. Simpson was also vice president of Business Development for S&IS Boeing Satellite Systems International, Inc. and executive director of Commercial and Civil Satellite Programs and Satellite Development Center Business Development. Simpson became vice president in 1998 and has held leadership responsibilities in a variety of strategic business areas within Boeing’s space business. Simpson holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in materials engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a graduate certificate in engineering management from the California Institute of Technology.
