Jenny is the Launch Manager at Spire, a satellite powered data company headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Jenny comes to Spire from SSL in Palo Alto, where she supported new business pursuits focusing on smallsats, hosted payloads and U.S. Government programs. Prior to joining SSL, Jenny spent nearly 10 years as a launch vehicle propulsion engineer at Orbital, where she led an integrated propulsion team on many successful launches, the development and qualification of propulsion subsystems for the two-stage variant of the Orbital Boost Vehicle (OBV) and the winning proposal effort for the GMD Defense Sustainment Contract (DSC). Jenny has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Arizona State University.
Considering the rapid growth in the number of smallsats/cubesats launched over the past several years, and the fact that more than 140 satellites with masses less than 10kg were launched in 2014, it is clear that this segment of the space industry is attracting a great deal of interest. This panel will address the past successes and shortfalls of design, development, and implementation, as well as looming opportunities, technical challenges, and future implications of launching smallsats.
