Steve Smith is Director of Programs for the Systems Engineering Solutions business unit of Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., where he directs programs executing on Ball's long history of work for the U.S. Air Force, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and other customers to protect space and airborne systems from cyber physical system threats. Ball has a rich heritage in developing systems and software, as well as providing outstanding people that analyze intelligence data and create actionable products for warfighters and decision makers. Smith joined Ball in 2011 in the company's Washington Operations as Director of Space Control and Special Missions. He subsequently relocated to Colorado to become Director of Military Space for the National Defense business unit. Smith retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Air Force in 2011 after serving 24 years in a variety of space and intelligence-related assignments. From 2009 until his retirement, Smith was Commander of the Advanced Capabilities Group at the Space and Missiles Systems Center (SMC/SY), Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. He holds a Bachelor of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado.
